Whole-system duct and dryer vent check with before-and-after photos - you see exactly what came out of your vents

Worth knowing

That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Nikro Register & Grille Cleaning: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We install Nikro-compatible register and grille cleaning sets across Los Angeles, with most jobs running between $240 and $480 depending on the model line. You’ll usually hear the problem before you see it: a low rattle at the vent, a grille that won’t seat flush anymore, or paint that’s started peeling around the edges because moisture’s been sitting there. Maybe a register got stepped on during a furniture move, or the damper tab snapped off years ago and you’ve been living with it. Either way, you want the right replacement matched to your Nikro setup, not whatever the hardware store happens to carry.

Which Nikro Models This Applies To

Nikro’s register and grille cleaning hardware shows up mostly as part of their HEPA vacuum extraction systems, and the compatibility story matters more than most owners expect. The older NS and RP series used a stamped steel register that measures 4″ x 10″ at the face but had a non-standard 9.5″ rough opening. The newer NIKRO WS and industrial lines moved to a heavier gauge with a 10″ rough opening, so the two are not interchangeable without modifying the duct opening. Before you order anything, pop the register off and measure the rough opening, then check the back face for a Nikro part number starting with “NK-RG” or “NK-SR.” We carry both OEM Nikro registers and quality aftermarket equivalents, and we’ll tell you honestly when the aftermarket piece makes sense. For most Los Angeles homes, the aftermarket steel version works fine and saves about $30 to $40 per register. If you’re running a commercial or high-traffic space, stick with OEM for the thicker gauge.

Signs Your Nikro Register & Grille Cleaning Is Failing

  • Persistent rattle at specific registers. The damper leaf has loosened from its pivot pin over thousands of open-and-close cycles. Tightening works temporarily, but once the pin’s wallowed out, the register needs replacing.
  • Grille won’t sit flush in the opening. This usually means the mounting tabs are bent or the frame’s warped from heat cycling. A register that doesn’t seat properly leaks conditioned air into the wall cavity instead of the room.
  • Visible corrosion or paint blistering on the face. Los Angeles coastal moisture does a number on cheap steel. Once pitting starts, the metal’s compromised and surface paint won’t save it.
  • Damper tab snapped or missing. You can’t balance airflow to that room anymore, which forces your system to work harder and pushes more air to rooms that don’t need it.
  • Black particulate staining around the vent edges. That’s not necessarily the register failing, but it means the seal between the register and the boot is shot. Air’s bypassing the filter path and pulling attic or crawlspace dust straight into the room.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard Los Angeles home with six to ten registers, expect $240 to $480 installed, including the new register or grille, the labor to swap it, and a quick check of the duct boot and seal. The range comes down to three things: how many registers you’re replacing, whether you need OEM Nikro or aftermarket steel, and whether the boot needs resealing or just a fresh register. We quote one flat price per system before any work starts, and it does not change once we’re on site. Every replacement carries a written guarantee, and if the part fails within 365 days, we return and correct it at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely handle the diagnostic side yourself: pull the register off, measure the rough opening, and check for that NK-RG or NK-SR part number. That information saves a trip and makes your quote faster. Where DIY goes sideways is the install. A register that doesn’t seat properly against the boot creates a bypass gap, and sealing that gap correctly means working with the boot itself, not just the register face. If the damage is more than cosmetic, or if you’ve got multiple registers showing the same wear, call Omar Haddad and the team at (737) 727-2314 and we’ll price the whole job before anything gets touched.
